Nigerian government sets to give citizens free 42,000 metric tonnes of grain

The Nigerian government has stated that the 42, 000 metric tonnes of grain to be distributed to the poor will be free of charge.

According to media reports, the Nigerian government has agreed to release grains from its national reserves to help citizens cope with economic hardship.

At a joint press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister of Information and National Orientation Muhammed Idris and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari stated that the Tinubu administration will distribute the food items free of charge to all Nigerians, particularly the needy.

“The 42, 000 metric tonnes of food in the national food stockpile are free. “We’re trying to bring food prices down and make it more accessible,” Kyari remarked.

“So these 42, 000 metric tonnes of food will be distributed free of charge to those in need. It would be distributed free of charge to those in need.

“We met with DSS and NEMA to get the index. This is to gather intelligence on where it is most needed, and we will analyze those indexes.”
