Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian House of Representatives has adjourned its plenary session until Thursday, October 12, in memory of one of its members, Hon. Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga, who passed away on Wednesday morning.
Hon. Danbuga had been representing the Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency of Sokoto State in the House of Representatives.
At the plenary held on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu presided over the proceedings and announced the adjournment of the day’s business. This was done to allow the House members to observe a mourning period in accordance with parliamentary tradition.
Deputy Speaker Kalu expressed the House’s condolences, saying, “The House of Representatives regrets to announce the death of Hon. Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga, the member representing Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency of Sokoto State in the Green Chamber.”
He went on to offer condolences to the family, constituents, and the people of Sokoto State, praying for comfort and peace during this difficult time and for the late parliamentarian’s soul to rest in peace.
Hon. Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga passed away at the age of 63 after a brief illness. He was laid to rest in Sokoto State, following Islamic burial customs.
He was elected to the House of Representatives in April 2023 as a member of the All Progressives Congress, following his victory in the supplementary elections. The sudden loss of a fellow parliamentarian has left the House in mourning and reflects the solemn atmosphere within the legislative body.
