Nigerian Senate Pays Tribute to Otukpo Bank Robbery Victims

In a solemn session on Monday, the Nigerian Senate paid tribute to the victims of the recent Otukpo bank robbery in Benue State, which took place on Friday, October 20, 2023. The Senate marked this moment of reflection by observing a minute of silence in their memory.

This decision by the Senate to honor the victims came as a response to a motion regarding the urgent need for a thorough investigation into the incident. The motion was presented by Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Benue South. He invoked Orders 41 and 51 of the Senate Standing Orders to address this matter of critical public importance.

The Senate further called upon law enforcement authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the attack. They sought to uncover the reasons behind the apparent lack of intelligence and preparedness on the part of the police during the attack, raising questions about security measures and law enforcement’s readiness.

Further details on the outcome of this Senate session are expected to be provided at a later time.
