Nigerian Senate Urges Immediate Ceasefire in Israel-Hamas War

In a recent development, the Nigerian Senate has passed a resolution calling on the Federal Government to collaborate with the United Nations and other countries to ensure an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The Senate also urged the government to advocate for a two-state solution to bring an end to the conflict, which has resulted in a significant loss of lives, including women, children, and aid workers.

The motion was sponsored by Senator Adamu Aliero of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kebbi State and co-sponsored by 43 others during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday. Aliero expressed concern over the alarming casualty figures in the conflict and warned that if it is not resolved promptly, it could escalate into a global conflict.

Several senators who participated in the debate, including Barau Jibrin (Kano), Enyinaya Abaribe (Abia), and Sani Musa (Niger), condemned the loss of lives on both sides and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to save lives and protect property.

The Senate’s resolution reflects Nigeria’s concern and call for peace in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
