The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) has urged for a higher budget allocation to the Federal Ministry of Youth, emphasizing the need for adequate funding to support youth development initiatives. The call was made by the Speaker of the NYP, Azeezat Yishawu, following a meeting with the Minister of Youth, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, and NYP members.
Yishawu stressed the importance of proper budget allocation for the successful implementation of youth development projects and programs, especially those like the Nigerian Youth Parliament, which play a role in nurturing future leaders. She assured the Minister that the Nigerian youth are ready to provide support to ensure her success, acknowledging the substantial responsibility that comes with overseeing the youth population in the country.
Additionally, Yishawu presented a comprehensive research report conducted by the NYP in about 20 states across the country. This research is intended to assist in policy formulation and program implementation aimed at positively impacting the youth.
The lack of proper planning and funding for NYP programs was highlighted as a significant challenge by Yishawu. In response, the Minister pledged to address the challenges and provide necessary support, recognizing the impressive work done by the NYP.
Dr. Jamila Ibrahim also expressed her passion for supporting youth and women, emphasizing her commitment to helping them succeed. She promised to study the report on the National Youth Security Summit and work toward addressing the challenges and needs of the youth in the country.
