NLC Members Rally in Abuja as President Joe Ajaero Faces Police Inquiry

Leaders and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have gathered at the NLC headquarters in Abuja today in a show of solidarity with their President, Joe Ajaero, who is scheduled to honor a police invitation related to alleged terrorism financing and other charges.

NLC members began arriving at the headquarters as early as 8:00 a.m., ahead of Ajaero’s 10:00 a.m. visit to the police facility. The gathering is expected to proceed with a solidarity march alongside their President. In response to the anticipated march, a significant police presence has been deployed near the NLC building to maintain order.

The NLC had earlier warned that if Ajaero is detained, all affiliated unions would commence a nationwide strike. In preparation for Ajaero’s appearance, the NLC General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, issued a circular urging state chapter leaders to organize peaceful processions and prayer sessions at police headquarters across the country.

The NLC’s actions aim to demonstrate unity and resistance against what they perceive as attempts to intimidate union leaders and Nigerian workers.
