The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made it clear to President Bola Tinubu that the union will not be swayed to follow the government’s agenda. Speaking on Thursday at the Labour House in Abuja, NLC Secretary General Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja addressed members who gathered in support of NLC President Joe Ajaero, who is under investigation at police headquarters for an alleged terrorism case.
Ugboaja emphasized that the NLC has always maintained its integrity, with no history of violence or exiled leaders. He reassured members that the current leadership will not be intimidated by the government, despite accusations that Ajaero is either too tough or too lenient.
“No matter the charges or cases against our leader, we will stand firm,” Ugboaja said. “We will not bow to anyone. We’ve always done our work diligently—saying no when necessary, yes when appropriate, and striking a balance when needed. We cannot be bent to anyone’s will, but we will adjust appropriately.”
Ugboaja concluded by stating that the NLC will continue to stand as a strong, independent union, not swayed by external pressures.
