The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led government to present a new minimum wage template, following President Tinubu’s directive to expedite the process. Despite assurances from the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, after a meeting with Tinubu, the labour union claims that the Federal Government failed to present a new template, days after the call for an indefinite strike.
Speaking on the matter, the president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo, stated, “Nothing has been presented yet… All we were discussing were the principles behind some of these issues.” In response, the NLC urged the government to act on the minimum wage, emphasizing that the deadline is approaching. They stressed the importance of tangible actions over mere assurances, urging the government to prioritize the welfare of workers.
