The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that it will initiate a nationwide strike if its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, is arrested by the Nigeria Police. This announcement was made on Tuesday morning following an emergency meeting of the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC), held to discuss a police request to invite Ajaero over allegations related to the financing of terrorism.
During the meeting, the NEC agreed that Ajaero would comply with the police invitation, but they also requested additional time to prepare with legal counsel before his appearance. The union emphasized the importance of handling the situation carefully to avoid any unjust detention.
NLC Deputy President, Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, urged workers to be ready for further instructions, stating that if Ajaero is detained, all workers across the country will immediately go on strike. He assured that the NLC will continue to engage with the authorities while preparing for any possible outcomes.
