The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially resumed operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery, marking a significant step toward Nigeria’s goal of becoming self-sufficient in petroleum refining. The refinery, with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, has now restarted, a milestone the NNPCL describes as important for the nation’s energy sector.
While Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) members have yet to be involved in the refinery’s distribution, they remain hopeful that this development will create competition and ultimately lower petrol prices. Marketers believe that as supply increases with both NNPCL and Dangote refineries in operation, it will lead to a reduction in prices, benefiting Nigerians.
