Nollywood Mourns Mr Ibu Death

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the world of entertainment is mourning the loss of veteran actor John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr Ibu, renowned for his comedic brilliance in movies and skits. The beloved actor bid farewell on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a Lagos hospital, succumbing to a sudden cardiac arrest.

News of Mr Ibu’s passing comes just within a day of the tragic death of another actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, in Osun State.

Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, expressed his sorrow on Instagram, “Sad day for the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today, and Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest, according to his manager of 24 years, Don Nwuzor. I announce with a deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu did not make it. May his soul rest in peace.”

The entertainment community flooded social media with tributes. Actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie wrote, “It is well…rest well, sir.” Peter, a member of the pop group P-Square, shared, “Rest well, Mr Ibu. We will definitely miss you, brother.”

Mr Ibu’s health struggles were no secret, with the amputation of his legs after a public plea for financial assistance. The actor faced family disputes during this challenging period, with accusations of potential embezzlement of funds raised for his medical bills.

In the midst of his health battles, Mr Ibu also weathered scandalous allegations, including a purported affair with his adopted daughter, Chioma (Jasmine), vehemently denied by both parties.

The final chapters of Mr Ibu’s life were marked by tumult, surviving alleged poison attempts, claiming three life-threatening incidents. His passing adds to the list of departed stars in 2024, alongside Sisi Quadri and Deji Akinremi, aka Olofa Ina.
