NYSC Member Regains Freedom After ₦1.1m Ransom Payment

An NYSC member, Rofiat Lawal, who was kidnapped along the Benin-Ore Expressway on Tuesday, has been released after her family paid a ransom of ₦1.1 million. Lawal was abducted while traveling to Ibadan, Oyo State, for her primary assignment, with the kidnappers initially demanding ₦20 million before reducing it to ₦5 million.

Her friend, Agbakwara, revealed that after desperate fundraising efforts involving friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, ₦1.1 million was raised and sent to an account provided by the kidnappers. The ransom was reportedly delivered by another victim’s relative, who claimed his own sister had also been kidnapped.

Lawal was freed on Friday night and taken to the hospital before reuniting with her family on Saturday morning. Agbakwara expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed and supported the efforts to secure her release.
