Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that many of Nigeria’s current leaders lack the qualities needed to govern effectively and should instead be in prison. Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during a meeting with six House of Representatives members, Obasanjo criticized the idea of a single six-year term for the presidency, arguing that it wouldn’t solve the country’s problems.
He emphasized the need for a complete rethink of Nigeria’s democracy, warning that the country is like a “powder keg” ready to explode if leaders don’t take bold actions. He also expressed disappointment over the failure of successive governments to build on the foundation he laid, stressing that this has caused significant setbacks for the nation.

He urged the government to address the valid concerns raised by the #EndBadGovernance protesters instead of ignoring them, stating that it’s inappropriate for leaders to live lavishly while the people suffer. Obasanjo called for a change in mentality and character among those in power, insisting that until this happens, Nigeria will continue to struggle.
