Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the need for consistent efforts to tackle corruption in Nigeria, warning that sporadic actions will not yield lasting results. Speaking during a virtual session titled “Boiling Point Arena” on Sunday, Obasanjo noted that corruption has deeply infiltrated Nigerian society.
He likened corruption to a “babanriga” garment, describing it as challenging to manage, with efforts to curb it in one area often leading to its resurgence elsewhere. Obasanjo stressed that fighting corruption requires consistent, daily efforts across multiple administrations to achieve meaningful progress.
Addressing leadership, the former president argued that genuine leaders are made by God and warned against self-made or morally compromised leaders. He also criticized government officials for contributing to poverty, urging accountability and ethical governance to combat corruption effectively.
