Yunusa Tanko, spokesman for the Obi-Datti organisation, clarified on Friday that the Obidient Movement surpasses the Labour Party in scope and influence. Speaking on Channels TV, Tanko emphasized that the movement, while supportive of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, operates independently with a focus on good governance.
Tanko stated that the Obidient Movement will challenge any actions by the Labour Party or even Peter Obi that do not align with their principles of good governance. He highlighted that the movement’s loyalty is to the message of good governance championed by Obi.
In response to recent controversies, the Labour Party has renamed its Directorate of Obidient Affairs to the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration. This change follows backlash and aims to better represent the party’s broader goals. The inauguration of the newly named directorate is scheduled for June 8, 2024, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
