Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, has tasked the Delta police command with looking into the murder of Mr. Sunday Ufua, a teacher, at the hands of a parent and apprehending those responsible.
At the Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state, Ufua worked as a teacher.
According to reports, Ufah was allegedly killed on Wednesday after being attacked by the father of a student who goes by the name Uweke.
In a message of sympathy, Oborevwori warned parents and guardians against taking criminal action against teachers for addressing their misbehaving kids or wards. The message was signed by his chief press secretary, Mr. Festus Ahon.
“I have been informed of the tragic murder of a dedicated teacher at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, who was allegedly killed by a parent whose son had received discipline for alleged misbehavior.I have asked the State Police Command to look into the allegations against the parent and the student in order to ensure that justice is done in this case, even as I offer my condolences to the bereaved family and teachers across the state for the tragic and untimely passing of their father, son, brother, and colleague.
As a state government, we strongly disapprove of parents intimidating instructors into disciplining pupils for inappropriate behavior, as is claimed in the current instance.
“I have instructed the State Police Command to thoroughly examine the case and prosecute the offenders.
“I express my condolences to the Ufua family and teachers throughout the state on the terrible and untimely passing of their father and colleague on behalf of the Delta government and people.
As a state, Oborevwori declared, “We will never permit behavior like this in our schools.”
