The prosecutor, Lawrence Olu-Balogun, stated that on August 22, 2023, individuals named Emmanuel and Ojuola stole various automotive parts including tires, rims, and drum hubs from trailers with registration numbers DT/7736/CH and DT/7579/CH, all belonging to Dangote Cement Transport, Ibese. The stolen items were valued at N976,715.00.
The charges against Emmanuel and Ojuola include conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically stealing, which violates Sections 516 and 383 of the Criminal Code Vol. II Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2004. They were accused of conspiring to steal and actually stealing the mentioned automotive parts.
Additionally, another individual, Abdulrahman, was charged for driving recklessly and causing bodily injuries to a person named Onasanya. This incident occurred on August 12, 2023, along Afami Road in Yewa-North local government area of Ogun State. Abdulrahman was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup van with registration number 001 at the time of the accident. He was charged under Section 6(1) and Section 13 (1) (a) of the Federal High Way Act CAP 135 of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In both cases, the convicts pleaded guilty to the charges. The Chief Magistrate E. O. Idowu found Emmanuel and Ojuola guilty and sentenced them to three months imprisonment each without an option of a fine. Abdulrahman was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option to pay a fine of N10,000 or N200,000 to the injured victim for medical attention, depending on his preference.
