Author: Olumide Taiwo
In a recent development, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) has taken into custody Hon. Damilare Mohammed, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Sagamu Constituency I, and six other individuals suspected of involvement in a cult-related clash in Sagamu. The arrest took place within the legislative quarters of the lawmaker in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Allegations suggest that Hon. Damilare Mohammed had been providing refuge to the six fugitive suspected cult members who were reportedly linked to the recent four-day clash between rival cult groups in Sagamu, resulting in the loss of eight lives.
The state government, in a press release issued to the media on Thursday morning, disclosed, “The member representing Sagamu State Constituency (1), Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, was accused of sheltering the fleeing cultists. Acting on a tip-off, a team of security operatives conducted a sting operation, leading to the arrest of the suspects within the lawmaker’s premises.”
Among those apprehended are Damilare Bello Mohammed, known as DRE, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade. They are presently undergoing interrogation at the Department of State Service (DSS) facilities.
Sources have revealed that the suspects were found in possession of various dangerous weapons, including firearms. It is worth noting that Hon. Bello had previously been arrested by the DSS for his alleged involvement in orchestrating a violent protest that occurred in February of the same year in Sagamu. The protest had been triggered by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy.
