Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Ogun State governorship election, has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), according to a statement from the PDP. Kayode Adebayo, PDP’s Ogun State Publicity Secretary, confirmed Adebutu’s detention on Monday, noting it followed questioning over disturbances in recent local government elections.
Adebayo urged party members and supporters to remain calm, emphasizing Adebutu’s confidence in the process and commitment to peaceful resolution. He described the detention as a “sacrifice for democracy,” asking everyone to stay patient.
Efforts to secure Adebutu’s release, including a bail request, were unsuccessful as of Monday night, but his legal team plans to take further action on Tuesday. The PDP called on the public to remain peaceful until the matter is resolved.
