Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has expressed deep regret over disappointing gospel singer Tope Alabi on her wedding day. In a recent interview on Baba Ibe TV, he revealed that he broke a promise to lend her his luxury car, despite initially agreeing to do so. His decision to ignore her calls the day before the wedding remains one of his biggest regrets.
Igwe recounted that after the success of his movie Ololade Mr. Money, he purchased a Mercedes-Benz V-Boot and proudly inscribed the film’s title on it. However, a robbery incident in Ibadan made him reconsider lending out the car, fearing it could be stolen again. This led him to avoid Alabi’s calls, leaving her and her husband, Soji, stranded on their big day.
Though he has since apologized, Igwe admitted that the guilt still lingers, especially seeing Alabi now own multiple luxury cars, some beyond his reach. He described the incident as a painful lesson in broken trust, acknowledging that his decision hurt someone he deeply respects.
