Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Wole Olanipekun (SAN) has called for a Constitution that addresses the interests of all geo-political zones in Nigeria. Speaking in Ikere Ekiti, he highlighted the need for constitutional changes to stabilize the nation and ensure fair representation for all regions.
Olanipekun recalled a proposal during his tenure as NBA President, which recommended a single-term presidency of five or six years, with six vice presidents from each geo-political zone. Each vice president would oversee a specific ministry, such as Justice, Education, or Defence, ensuring balanced regional governance.
He explained that this system would have allowed the presidency to rotate among all zones, promoting unity and stability. According to him, if former President Olusegun Obasanjo had accepted the proposal, Nigeria’s political landscape might have been more stable today.
