John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, has expressed surprise at the perceived lack of performance by the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu since taking office on May 29. He made these remarks during the 10th Convention of the Catholic Men Organisation, Lagos Archdiocese, held at St Gregory’s College, Ikoyi.
Onaiyekan urged Nigerians to pray for the country and emphasized that the current “relative peace” should not be taken for granted. He also commented on the Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal, stating that the delay in the courts giving judgment was unfortunate and emphasized the importance of upholding justice.
He further mentioned that the decisions of the courts, especially the Supreme Court, would need to be accepted regardless of personal preferences, as there is no higher human recourse than the Supreme Court in such matters.
Onaiyekan’s remarks reflect the ongoing discussions and concerns about governance, leadership, and the judicial process in Nigeria.
