Ondo Majority Leader Denies Deputy Governor Impeachment Division

Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has refuted claims of division within the Assembly regarding the ongoing efforts to impeach the state’s Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on grounds of alleged gross misconduct.

Reports had suggested that the impeachment process faced challenges due to disagreements among the Ondo lawmakers. Eleven members of the Assembly, including two principal officers, issued a statement on Friday distancing themselves from a recent letter sent to the Ondo State Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola. The letter had requested the Chief Judge to establish a seven-man panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa.

This new letter to the Chief Judge followed the previous declaration by Ondo lawmakers that they were dropping the impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa, reportedly due to the intervention of the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Abuja.

The 11 lawmakers contended that the report of the fresh letter to the Chief Judge was a surprise to them, maintaining that the Assembly had abandoned the planned impeachment of the Deputy Governor.

In response, Majority Leader Ogunmolasuyi, speaking over the weekend, asserted that the House remained unified in its resolve to investigate and impeach the Deputy Governor.

He stated, “The House is in order, though some people are trying to play politics to divide us, it is not possible, we are together, the House is not divided.”

The situation surrounding the impeachment proceedings and the alleged division among lawmakers continues to evolve, with various members of the Assembly expressing differing perspectives on the matter. The Ondo State House of Assembly remains a focal point for ongoing discussions and developments in this regard.
