Former Edo State Governor and current Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has publicly criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki, for being childless and allegedly lacking love for children. Oshiomhole made these remarks during a press interview on Saturday, which was later uploaded by Television Continental (TVC) on its X handle.
Oshiomhole’s comments were in response to an alleged statement by Betsy Obaseki, who reportedly pointed out that only the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is without a wife among the contenders in the state. In a sharp rebuttal, Oshiomhole remarked that Governor Obaseki and his wife have not had children since their marriage and have also chosen not to adopt, questioning their love for children.

“I was shocked yesterday to see Mrs. Obaseki, the first lady, saying that our candidate has no wife. She is the most, I’m sorry that she has to say that, because here is a woman who has no child. Between him and Obaseki, they have no child, they are childless,” Oshiomhole stated, adding that despite their situation, they have not considered adoption, which he sees as an indication of their lack of affection for children.
He contrasted this with the family of APC candidate Monday Okpebholo, highlighting that Okpebholo’s wife and children, who are well-educated and actively involved in his campaign, demonstrate a strong family unit. Oshiomhole noted that Okpebholo’s children include a lawyer and a medical doctor, who have joined their mother in supporting their father’s political aspirations across the state.
