A personnel member of the Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) sustained injuries in a hit-and-run incident near the Osun Government Secretariat, Abere, along the Gbongan-Osogbo Road on Friday. The incident occurred when the driver of a speeding Lexus Jeep failed to stop at a roadblock, striking the FRSC officer and dragging him along the road until he fell off the vehicle.
Osun FRSC Sector Commander Inyang Umoh confirmed the incident, assuring that the injured officer is in stable condition. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the driver, who has not yet been arrested. Umoh stated, “The officer is in stable condition. We are making efforts to get the driver of the vehicle. He has not been arrested yet.”
In related news, the FRSC Zone 11 reported that nine people died in various road accidents in Osun, Oyo, and Ondo States during the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir Sallah holiday. The report detailed that these casualties resulted from 13 road accidents over the initial three days of the holiday, with 78 people injured. The Acting Zonal Commanding Officer, Leye Adegboyega, mentioned that the command’s special Sallah operation involved 3,018 members of the force, 57 patrol vehicles, five ambulances, and two heavy-duty tow trucks, ensuring swift medical response and transportation of the victims.
