In the early hours of Friday, a middle-aged man named Alex Itedjere, who is reportedly a pastor, butchered a young girl in the Agbarha-Otor neighborhood of Delta State’s Ughelli North Local Government Area.
According to reports, the victim’s remains were found at the pastor’s home in the rural neighborhood.
According to other reports, the clergyman used a machete to take the young girl’s life.
But as at the time this report was filed, specifics regarding the reason he killed the victim were still hazy.
However, after the horrible incident, it was claimed that angry adolescents from the neighborhood broke into the pastor’s home to exact revenge for the young girl’s murder.
One of the witnesses claimed that, except for the quick action of the security personnel who were dispatched by worried leaders, the enraged young people would have carried out their threat to lynch the pastor.
Comrade Israel Joe, a human rights campaigner, has quickly sought justice for the dead girl.
Joe urged the state’s chief of police, CP Wale Abass, to launch a quick investigation into the event and bring legal action against the offenders.
As of the time this story was filed, DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, could not be reached for comments on the event.
The incident was confirmed by a top security source from the command, who added, “The suspect was arrested this morning.”
