“PDP Dominates Edo LG Polls with 18-Seat Sweep”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has achieved a sweeping victory in the recent Edo State local government election, leaving no room for doubt about their dominance in the state’s political landscape. According to official results released by the State Independent Electoral Commission, the PDP secured victories in all 18 Local Government Areas, demonstrating a formidable hold on power.

In addition to the PDP, other major political parties, such as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP), also participated in the election, vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the wards. However, the PDP’s resounding success overshadowed their rivals, as evidenced by the results:

Statewide Results:

  • PDP: 16077
  • APC: 2519
  • LP: 2536

One notable outcome was in Ovia South West, where the PDP triumphed with significant numbers:

Ovia South West:

  • APC: 5361
  • LP: 3216
  • PDP: 10,721

The total registered voters numbered 89,897, with 21,442 accredited and only 429 invalid votes.

Other Local Government Areas witnessed similar victories for the PDP, including Uhunmwode, Owan West, Akoko Edo, Etsako East, Etsako Central, Etsako West, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North East, Igueben, Esan Central, Orhionmwon, Esan West, Esan South East, Esan North East, Owan East, Egor, and Oredo.

The results reflect a significant shift in political dynamics within the state, as Governor Obaseki’s PDP administration continues to consolidate its hold on governance. The resounding victories in this local government election have further solidified the PDP’s position in Edo State politics, setting the stage for continued political developments in the region.
