Lere Olayinka, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has dismissed those advocating for the suspension of former governor Ayodele Fayose from the party, labeling them as “political almajiris seeking unavailable lifeline.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka expressed amusement at the individuals leading the call, noting that they seemed unable to accept that the elections were over, and there would be no more free funds readily available.
Olayinka, who contested for a House of Representatives seat in the last general elections, stressed the need for the PDP to prioritize reconciliation efforts. He pointed out that the current state of the PDP required a humble approach, as the party had lost much of its political influence. He further urged those in control of the party to shed their arrogance in order to prevent its total collapse.
He commented, “The PDP of today is a party that should be going to people’s houses to beg them to return to active participation in the party. It is a party that has lost its political steam, and those at present controlling it should begin the shedding of their garments of arrogance so that the party can be prevented from total collapse.”
Olayinka also speculated that those calling for Fayose’s suspension might be motivated by personal interests or a desire for financial gain from the former governor. He suggested that the PDP in Ekiti should recognize the new political landscape and the challenges it faces, rather than engaging in divisive actions that could further weaken the party.
