Umar Sani, a leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the government’s plan to spend ₦10 billion on a solar power project for the State House. He called it a waste of resources, especially when many Nigerians are struggling with power shortages.
The government defended the move, which was criticized by PDP comparing it to the solar power used at the White House. But Sani argued that instead of securing energy for just the President’s office, this money could have been used to improve power for the entire country, which suffers from constant electricity issues.

He pointed out that while the President gets solar power, Nigerians still face a broken power system. Sani believes the funds should be used to upgrade the national power infrastructure to benefit everyone, not just the Presidency.
