Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has dismissed a false report that claimed he revealed plans to become president in 2027. The report, published by Dailypost newspaper, stated that Obi had granted an interview discussing his future presidential aspirations.
In a statement released on Saturday, Obi categorically denied granting any such interview or making any remarks about becoming president in 2027. He clarified that the report regarding his reaction to recent federal government appointees was also fabricated and untrue.
Obi expressed his dismay at the emergence of fake media reports and news items based on interviews and press remarks that he never made. He highlighted the unfortunate state of politics where manipulation of the media space has become a trade.
The LP candidate affirmed that he will continue to address national issues through recognized news and media outlets, but he will not be bothered by cheap distractive trolls. He reiterated that his focus, along with the Obidient Movement, remains steadfast in the mission to create a new Nigeria. Their emphasis has always been on addressing critical issues, deepening democracy, and empowering the marginalized in society.
Obi emphasized that their election campaigns were driven by substantial issues and not political positions or personal gain. Their primary goal is to put the nation on the right path and work towards a better future for all Nigerians.
