Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, has raised alarm over the growing corruption within the nation’s governance. Speaking at Nexford University’s 4th graduation ceremony themed “Lead the Change; Ignite Your Future,” Obi boldly claimed that government circles harbor more corrupt individuals, whom he referred to as “Yahoo people,” than those outside it. He lamented the state of the country, calling it a “crime scene” where theft thrives both inside and outside the corridors of power.
In his keynote address, Obi urged young graduates to rise above the decay and embody the leadership qualities necessary for a better Nigeria. “Leadership is not rocket science, but it requires strong character and the ability to resist wrongdoing,” he emphasized. He called on the youth to be agents of transformation, leveraging their knowledge to drive positive societal change.
Reflecting on the nation’s struggles, Obi stated, “You are victims of a system where past generations failed to do what is right.” He reminded the graduates of their critical role in shaping a brighter future. With education and integrity, he believes young leaders can ignite change and rebuild a nation desperate for progress.
