Police apprehend traffic robber on the Lekki expressway posing as a beggar

The arrest of a suspected traffic robber in the Lekki region of the state, who went by the name Ali, has been confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command.

The “notorious traffic robber, one Ali’m’, was arrested in the Ikate area of Lekki on Tuesday through the combined efforts of residents and the police,” according to a statement made on Wednesday by Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police.

According to the preliminary inquiry, the suspect who pretended to be a beggar on the Lekki-Epe Expressway scared unwary drivers and robbed them of their money and belongings under threat of violence, according to a statement from Hundeyin.

The Lekki Concession Company Limited also revealed in a statement how its security personnel assisted in the suspect’s capture.

The suspect’s arrest was predicated on an intelligence tip that the LCC received, according to Veronica Jacob, head of corporate affairs, communications, and marketing, who made this announcement on Wednesday.
“A retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army reported to the state governor about the nefarious activities of a man posing as a beggar who then attacks and relieves unsuspecting motorists of their valuables in the state,” Jacob stated. Solomon Tolafari, the Chief Security Officer of the LCC

The statement also stated that “Tolofari mobilized our Man ‘O War team to go after him based on the recent report of a man that had been terrorizing road users along the Lekki corridor. He was apprehended around the Ikate area on Tuesday carrying out his nefarious activities, robbing unsuspecting motorists while pretending to be begging for alms.”
According to the LCC, Ali was turned over to Maroko Police Station officials for additional inquiry and potential legal action.

“The suspect will be arraigned contingent on the outcome of an investigation,” the state PPRO concluded.
