A Nigerian lawyer has revealed the plight of an 18-year-old girl who has been in prison for months after allegedly being tortured by police into confessing to armed robbery.
The girl, who hawked agidi for survival, was arrested in August 2024 alongside three older men. According to the lawyer, officers burned her with a lighter and hung her upside down until she falsely admitted to the crime. The police also allegedly demanded ₦150,000 for her bail, which she could not afford.
Shockingly, her family remains unaware of her whereabouts. The lawyer has now taken up her case pro bono, sparking outrage and renewed calls for justice on social media.

@POTFRNG: “I have said this and will continue to say it, the NPF needs a thorough cleaning as in sack most of them with cases that has led to the person being remanded. This people don’t do the right thing and are cruel at it, forgetting they have kids or will have kids one day.”
@JunBo4: “These cases that you share are mind blowing. Do the top police officers not know what are done to these guys in prison cells. How can one light up someone’s vagina. That is heartless to say the least. The policeman that has done this then goes home and sleeps peacefully?”
@vicfabulous271: “The young girl told you a fabricated story sir. No police interrogation can get to the extent of hanging her upside down and burning her vagina with a lighter.”
@vicfabulous271: “Who on earth will admit to an alleged crime that he/she knows would land him/her in kirikiri for years without cooking up lies as a defence?”
@karl_uriel21: “A guy was recently arrested, killed and and cut open. When the parents came to bail out their child, they told them that he had committed suicide, when the parents requested for the corpse, they took the parents to a morgue where the brought out their son, all stitched up.”
@okaforpascal40: “I spent a horrific, traumatic, gory 90 days in Awkuzu SARs and I can confirm firsthand the truth about everything you shared here. The world will hear my story soon.”
