In a month marked by both heroic rescues and shocking revelations, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has demonstrated unwavering commitment to combating crime, rescuing four kidnap victims and apprehending 52 suspects across various criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, disclosed to journalists in Uyo on Friday the multifaceted nature of crimes tackled by the force, ranging from murder and armed robbery to child trafficking and fraud.
However, amidst the commendable efforts of law enforcement, a startling case emerged: a woman from Nung Oku village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area orchestrated her own abduction, demanding a ransom of N4 million. The elaborate scheme was swiftly uncovered by the Anti-kidnapping Squad, leading to the arrest of the purported victim and her boyfriend at a hideout in Mbierebe Obio. The woman’s confession revealed a conspiracy with her boyfriend and three others to extort money from her unsuspecting aunt abroad.
In another tragic incident, a man in Uruting village, Okobo Local Government Area, was apprehended for brutally murdering his 75-year-old father with a machete. The suspect cited his father’s alleged sale of all their land, including the plot designated for his house, as justification for the heinous act.
Further investigations unearthed instances of economic sabotage, as a man in Ayam village, Etinan Local Government Area, was caught producing adulterated fruit drinks and counterfeit products. Similarly, a fraudster exploiting Point of Sale machines to swindle innocent citizens was apprehended just in time to thwart a mob attack.
As the police diligently pursue justice, Commissioner Ayilara assured the public that all suspects would be swiftly brought to book, emphasizing the commitment to upholding law and order in Akwa Ibom State.
