Police Closing In on DPO Murder Suspect in Rivers State

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, announced that the state police command is making significant progress in its efforts to apprehend the prime suspect involved in the abduction and murder of Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada East Local Government Area. The incident occurred over two weeks ago, when Angbashim was captured by a suspected gang led by Gift Okpara in the Odiemudie community, Ahoada West Local Government Area.

The assailants decapitated Angbashim’s body, filmed the gruesome act, and took away his remains. The police have been actively pursuing the gang responsible, with four suspects linked to the DPO’s murder already arrested.

While speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, Commissioner Nwonyi assured that the police were closing in on the main suspect, Gift Okpara. He emphasized that some of the suspects in custody had provided useful information that was aiding the investigation.

Nwonyi also commended the support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the efforts to arrest and prosecute the prime suspect. The Governor had offered a N100 million bounty for information leading to Okpara’s capture.

The Commissioner of Police called on residents of the state to support the ‘Operation Zero Crime’ initiative recently launched in Rivers State, emphasizing that improved security would pave the way for the state’s prosperity.

The ongoing investigation and pursuit of the suspects in the murder of the Divisional Police Officer underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies in Rivers State to bringing those responsible to justice and enhancing security in the region.
