Grace Chalya Silas, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, was brutally murdered in the state on Thursday, according to the Kaduna State Police Command.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, the state’s police commissioner, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, has ordered a manhunt for the Corps member’s killers.
During her morning jog at the Barnawa in the state’s Kaduna South Local Government Area on Wednesday, Chalya Silas, who is performing her one-year required national service there, was reportedly stabbed to death.
University of Jos classmates and friends of the deceased posted condolences on Facebook.
On her Facebook page, Comfort Elisha, one of them, commented, “No na. What is actually happening to Josite and the Special Education division? Chalya was ruthlessly assassinated in Kaduna while out for a morning jog while serving her country; we haven’t even done mourning for Kekefas Emmanuel. Chalya, may your murderers never be at rest. I can’t take this anymore.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna Command’s public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence to reporters but called the corps member’s death “tragic” instead.
Hassan claimed that following an emergency meeting of the highest level of command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, had directed the Barnawa Divisional Police Officer and operatives to look for the Corps member’s killers.
The police spokesperson described the occurrence as tragic. She was jogging in the early morning as part of her exercise routine when some motorcycle-riding miscreants attacked her and stole her phone.
Grace Chalya Silas is the name of the victim. She was a member of the Corps stationed in Kaduna South.
“As soon as the case was reported to the police, agents moved to the crime scene and found the victim in a pool of her own blood. She was taken to the clinic and later pronounced dead there.
Since the event was reported to the police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, the commissioner of police for Kaduna State, called an urgent meeting to discuss it with the highest levels of command. We have already established contact with the state’s NYSC.
“The CP has directed the Barnawa DPO and Area Commander, to immediately hunt for killers of the Corps member and fish out the perpetrators of the wicked act.”
