A man from Kaduna State who was allegedly involved in the theft of two horses in Niger was captured by security personnel.
The culprit was caught while attempting to bring the stolen horses to Kaduna State.
Wasiu Abiodun, the PRO of the Niger State Police Command, revealed in a statement on Thursday that Ahmed Aliyu of Zaria in Kaduna State stole two mares from a farm in Niger State and hid them in a bush before hiring transporters to bring them to Kaduna for N100,000.
“A case of missing horses from a farm in Chekungi village via Bida, Niger State, was reported at ‘A’ Div Bida on the 4th at approximately 1430 hours. in around 2110 hours on the 3rd, two female horses were gone from the stable where about five horses were kept. One Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu’m’ of Zaria, Kaduna, who was on the farm and had been visiting it for horse grooming and racing, was heavily suspected by the complaint. When questioned, the suspect admitted to the crime of moving the two horses from the farm to a nearby bush and then hiring a vehicle from the park to transport the animals to Kaduna for N100,000.
The suspect was then immediately taken into custody from the farm.
According to the confession, the driver of the truck was contacted, and the horses were left behind at Mararaban-Jos in Kaduna while arrangements were made for a different vehicle to transport them back to Bida, according to Abiodun.
The suspect is in jail, and the situation is being looked into, the spokesman revealed.
After the inquiry is over, “He will be charged and arraigned in court,” he declared.
