In the ongoing recruitment exercise for the Constable Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission has revealed that 84,606 applications have been rejected out of a total of 547,774 applications received. The recruitment portal, which opened on October 15, 2023, is set to close on November 26, 2023.
According to the Commission’s Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, Kaduna State leads with the highest number of applicants at 40,272, while Anambra recorded the lowest with 1,664 applicants. Adamawa State secured the second position with 36,398 applications, and Borno State ranked third with 32,048. Other states in the top positions include Benue, Katsina, Bauchi, and Kano.
Out of the total applications, 358,900 were successful and qualified for the next round, which involves physical assessments, credential verifications, medical examinations, and rigorous background checks.
A notable criterion for rejection was the age limit, as applicants are expected to be between 18 and 25 years old. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming interest shown by Nigerian youths in pursuing a career in the police force. Dr. Arase emphasized the importance of the recruitment process being based on defined criteria, with merit and justice prevailing throughout.
He also appealed to the youths of the South-East to overcome their indifference to police work, discouraging involvement with criminal gangs. Dr. Arase underscored the significance of community development and urged youths to consider the long-term consequences of terror-related activities on the region. The Commission reassured the public of its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.
