The Take-It-Back Movement faced a major setback on Monday as police blocked them from entering the Lagos State House of Assembly. The protesters had marched from Ikeja Underbridge to speak out against the Cybercrime Act, economic hardship, and illegal demolitions in Lagos.
Carrying placards, they accused the government of silencing free speech. One of their messages read: “Any law that stops us from speaking the truth is slavery.” They said the Cybercrime Act is being used to punish people who speak up against the government.

The group’s leader, Juwon Sanyaolu, told the police their action was against democracy. However, a police officer, Tijani Fatai, told them they wouldn’t be allowed inside but could send a representative to speak with lawmakers outside.
