Nigerian singer Portable narrowly avoided re-arrest on Tuesday after veteran fuji musician, Osupa, withdrew his petition against him. Osupa had accused Portable of criminal defamation, intimidation, and cyberstalking following a controversial Instagram broadcast. The petition was retracted after pressure from music industry figures who urged Osupa to settle the matter.
He had been arrested by the Kwara State Police and denied bail earlier on Monday, but the case took a turn when Osupa’s lawyer filed to withdraw the charges, leading to Portable’s release from detention on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the controversy is far from over. Starwood Hotels in Ilorin is now suing him for failing to perform at an event he was paid N6.3 million for. Despite having legal grounds to pursue the case, the hotel management chose not to act out of respect for Osupa’s intervention.
