In anticipation of the forthcoming Appeal Court judgment on the Nasarawa State governorship election, Muslim and Christian supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have initiated a seven-day joint prayer session for the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. David Ombugadu. The prayer session aims to seek divine intervention and protection for the PDP candidate as the legal process unfolds.
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal had previously nullified the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 2, 2023, declaring Ombugadu the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state. The tribunal, chaired by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, affirmed that the petitioners (Ombugadu and the PDP) successfully proved their case.
Participants in the prayer session expressed confidence in the fairness of the legal process and prayed for justice to prevail in Nasarawa State. Suleiman Abdullahi, a leader of the prayer group, emphasized their belief in divine justice, expressing optimism that the will of the people would be upheld.
Rev. Emmanuel Bako emphasized the significance of seeking God’s guidance and urged the judges to dispense justice impartially. Participants stressed their commitment to peaceful prayers and urged the judges to consider the mandate given to Ombugadu by the people.
The prayer session comes ahead of the awaited appeal court judgment in the case filed by Governor Sule, challenging the tribunal’s decision and seeking a reversal of Ombugadu’s declaration as the duly elected governor.
