President Bola Tinubu presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking the fifth gathering since January this year. Attending the meeting were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamia, and other key officials.
The council is expected to address significant challenges facing the nation, with far-reaching decisions anticipated.
Before commencing, a minute of silence was observed in honor of two deceased former cabinet members: Prof. Fabian Osuji, who served as Minister of Education from July 2003 to March 2005, and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Osuji passed away on February 28, 2024, while Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, died on April 11, 2024.
President Tinubu also swore in two commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC): Mr. Fasuwa Johnson from Ogun State and Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem from Osun State. This follows the appointment of 20 federal commissioners to the commission on November 8, 2023, with nine reappointed for a second term. Seventeen commissioners were sworn in on March 14.
