Presidential Aide Defends Tinubu’s Slip During Democracy Day Event

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has defended the President after he slipped during the Democracy Day celebration at Eagle Square in Abuja. The incident occurred on Wednesday as Tinubu was boarding the parade vehicle, momentarily losing his footing before quickly regaining balance and continuing with the event.

The slip has garnered various reactions from Nigerians. Onanuga addressed the situation on the X platform, emphasizing that the fall should not overshadow the significance of the Democracy Day celebration. He stated that such incidents are human and can happen to anyone, including political leaders.

Onanuga further illustrated his point by mentioning that even former American presidents like Barack Obama and Joe Biden have experienced similar slips while in office. “President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human like all of us… Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day celebration,” Onanuga wrote.
