Princess: It’s sad dad lasted only three days on throne – Ondo regent

Meet Princess Adeyinka Abejoye, the regent of Irokun land in Ondo State’s Ilaje Local Government Area. Her journey from an ordinary upbringing to a regal position is a tale of surprise and transformation.

Growing up in a joyful household, Princess Adeyinka lived her life with her father, a retired vice principal. Her transition to regent was far from planned or expected. In fact, if someone had foretold her regency just a year ago, she would have dismissed it as improbable.

The late Kabiyesi, Princess Adeyinka’s father, had strived for 19 years to attain the title of king. His coronation finally occurred in November 2022, only for him to pass away just three days later. In the wake of this, the kingdom needed a regent, and Princess Adeyinka was called upon, despite her initial reluctance.

A devout Christian and a worker at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Princess Adeyinka wrestled with the idea of becoming a regent. However, the unanimous urging from the kingdom’s members, including the high priest and traditional officials, swayed her decision. Ultimately, she accepted this role of temporary leadership, seeking guidance through prayer and finding the strength to continue her father’s legacy.

Balancing regency with her Christian faith and family responsibilities has proven to be a demanding yet enlightening journey. As a regent, she remains steadfast in her commitment to respecting her husband, even while occupying a position traditionally held by men. She continues to be a devoted mother to her four children and a loving wife to her businessman husband.

Transitioning from being unemployed to self-employed through online businesses, Princess Adeyinka is now navigating the responsibilities of leadership. She is determined to address the community’s pressing issues, such as road conditions, lack of electricity, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.

While traditional roles might have expectations of rituals, Princess Adeyinka’s Christian faith has guided her choices. She acknowledges that the regency holds both challenges and rewards, and she’s steadfast in her commitment to serving her community and her God.

Princess Adeyinka’s story is a testament to the unexpected turns life can take and the resilience and strength one can discover within themselves when faced with unanticipated challenges.
