Choice Clinic, a private medical facility with only two employees—a nurse and a cleaner—was shut down by the Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA).
According to reports, the closure came just a week after the organization had sealed off Reach Clinic for breaking its rules and operating policies.
Professor Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, the agency’s director general, claimed in a statement following the closure of the institution that the Choice Clinic was at odds with an other
clinic with whom it shared a building and “which we observed they are illegally operating.”
He said that given the circumstances, the agency had the right to revoke their registration and instruct them to find a new location anywhere in the state where they may reopen the centers after being evaluated and registered by PHIMA.
The other center, which was at Rijiyar Zaki, closed as per our instructions, he said. Unfortunately, the Choice Clinic steadfastly refused to close. When we arrived, a woman who had recently undergone surgery was taken to the hospital. So we didn’t lock the center up till she was released. Yet we shut down their theater. They were given two weeks to cease operations, but they ignored our orders.
“We arrived there and closed it off… This is due to the lack of a medical doctor, pharmacist, and other staff members required for the provision of healthcare services. A nurse and a cleaner are the only employees.
