Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge, a political scientist from Bayero University, has warned that influential individuals close to President Bola Tinubu are swaying his policies, pushing him to govern Nigeria similarly to Lagos. According to Professor Fagge, this approach is causing widespread dissatisfaction, as Nigeria’s complexity requires unique policies, not a replica of Lagos governance.
In an interview, Professor Fagge highlighted the powerful role cabals often play, noting that, unlike in other nations, they interfere significantly in Nigeria’s daily governance. He urged President Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians rather than focusing on the interests of a few political acquaintances or relatives who held influence during his tenure as governor.
Professor Fagge recommended that Tinubu engage more with the Nigerian public and expand communication channels to better understand citizens’ needs. He emphasized that listening directly to the people would help the president make more informed and beneficial decisions for the nation as a whole.
