The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a significant setback as prominent members, including Clement Aziegbemi and Abbas Momoh Jega, have announced their departure from the party. Joined by other key figures, they cited division and disunity within the party as their primary reason for leaving, less than four months before the upcoming governorship election in September 2024.
In their resignation letters, Aziegbemi highlighted ongoing party crises and dissatisfaction with the leadership’s approach, particularly regarding the gubernatorial candidate’s collaboration with new entrants instead of loyal members. Similarly, Jega expressed disappointment with the party’s transformation from a disciplined entity to one lacking in respect and discipline, leading to his decision to resign.
Their resignations underscore growing discontent within the PDP in Edo State, with more members reportedly considering defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the impending election.
