The Federal Government has called on retailers to stop exploiting Nigerians and immediately reflect recent reductions in food prices. Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abubakar Kyari, made this statement during the 2025 Wheat Farmers Green Field Day in Jigawa State.
Kyari criticized retailers for refusing to lower prices despite significant price drops for staples like flour, which fell from ₦81,000 to below ₦60,000, and spaghetti, down from ₦20,000 to ₦15,000. He labeled this refusal as unpatriotic, stressing that Nigerians deserve relief from the high cost of food.
The Minister assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to ensuring food affordability. He promised that all relevant stakeholders would be engaged to ensure market prices accurately reflect these reductions, providing much-needed relief to consumers.
