Col. Garba Moyi (retd), who was recently appointed as the chairman of the Sokoto Security Community Guards, announced his resignation from the position on Saturday. Moyi, a retired Colonel and a three-term Commissioner for Security in Sokoto State, cited a social media post targeting his character as the reason for his decision.
Speaking at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Center in Sokoto, he stated, “I served the country until I retired as a Colonel, after which I joined politics to serve as the chairman of my local government. I also served as the state commissioner for security on three different occasions until I resigned during the past administration without any blemish.”
Moyi expressed his disappointment with a doctored video that had been circulated on social media, aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He believed that resigning from his appointment was the best course of action.
In closing, he commended the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for considering him suitable for the role in the first place.
