Rights Activist Calls for Change of Nigeria’s Name and Flag

Prominent rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to change Nigeria’s name and national flag. This follows the administration’s decision to revert to the old national anthem, which Ozekhome praised as a positive development.

Ozekhome commended the return to the old anthem during a press conference on Wednesday, noting that he had advocated for this change at the 2014 National Conference. He described the old anthem as having superior lyrics in both content and context compared to the previous one.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, officially reinstating the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” Ozekhome expressed his belief that the changes should go further to include the country’s name and flag.
